We boarded the coach for our 4 day Kings Tour bright and early – moving on from Alice Springs to Yulara, Uluru. But we will be heading back to check out the delights of Alice shortly . First stop of our day was to a Camel Farm. We noticed that non of our travelling companions were game to climb aboard one of these beasts – like us, they preferred watch from the side-lines. The attendant told us he prefers to work with castrated males, as they are much calmer than the hormonal females! This farm produces many successful racing camels, and has a whole lot of silver to prove it.

As we drove closer we saw our first view of Uluru, Ayers Rock, away in the distance through the windows of the coach.
Uluru
We pulled in to the Desert Garden Hotel in the early afternoon, and after waiting in line to book in with all the others, we were offered an upgrade to a Special Needs room, complete with a king sized bed, and extra wide doorways to cater for wheelchairs. Brilliant – especially as most of the guests were told that their rooms were not yet ready, and we just walked past them all for a little R&R before our afternoon tour took place.
Our digs for the next two nights
We had time to walk down to the small shopping centre. Robin needed a new backpack to replace the one he had brought along which was falling to bits. Plus we both bought a new Uluru top each – after all, we are on holiday. We caught the handy free hop on, hop off shuttle bus back which services all the local hotels, and saved our poor tired legs.

Boarding the bus again at 5.00pm we were whisked away to the Kata Tjuta Sunset Tour. These rock formations were originally known as the Olga's. The day was cloudy, in fact it had rained quite heavily in the morning, so the sunset didn’t really happen. But it was pleasant to view the rocks, enjoy a glass of bubbly for her and red wine for him, and nibble on a selection of canapés.
Canapés and Australian wine – loved that smoked salmon!

You're continuing to make me jealous. It sounds like a lovely evening. What a pity about the sunset. Lucky you to have the room upgrade. It must seem huge after your train cabin.
Loved your digs, pretty impressive! That salmon looked pretty yummy too.
