Success is getting what you want; happiness is liking what you get

One step forward, two steps back

A day playing hooky yesterday made a nice change from lugging heavy boxes around, and unpacking them.  We travelled to Palmerston North,  (known to the locals as “Palmy”),  with a list of things to purchase for the new house.  Robin’s short list took him to Mega Mitre 10 looking for a stud finder,  a very necessary piece of equipment, I understand.  Our previous house was a Lockwood, with timber walls, so he could bang a nail in anywhere he wanted.  It is quite a different story when the walls are made from gib (plaster) board, which is attached to timber studs, and that of course is why we needed a stud finder.  My list was much longer and we went looking for various storage items for the pantry and the wardrobes.

We were back at the house today with all our new purchases.  The tea towel rail was soon screwed into place – no trouble getting that small job done.  Next job didn’t go to plan at all.  On assembling the shoe rack for the bottom of the wardrobe, he discovered that the item was faulty – so that means a return trip to Palmy to exchange the faulty item.  It was a two person job to hold the pieces of the shelving unit in place, and Robin made a good start on putting it all together.  But he didn’t have all his tools with him, so that job will have to be finished later too.  So it was a matter of one step forward and two back today.

Although we are still surrounded with a mountain of boxes, we are slowly getting organised.  The plan is to finally move in to our new home on Saturday afternoon.  After spending the last three months living in the caravan, that will certainly be a big change.  Wonder how our cat Muffy will cope with this?  We do hope she settles down well.  She rather likes staying in the caravan – it is just the right size so that she can see where we are at all times.  As well as keeping  her eye on that cat she can see through the screen door.
