Chinese Whispers

By the end of the working week and we are generally feeling a bit tired.  Too tired to cook a meal on Friday nights, so we usually buy take-a-ways on this night of the week.  Jenny fancied a night out at the local Chinese Restaurant here in Upper Hutt.  So we asked friends Graeme and Kathryn if they would like to join us.  Certainly, was the reply.

We opted for the smorgasbord selection.  There was the usual chicken and corn soup to start.  The hot dishes were set out and most of us chose a selection of crispy wontons, spring rolls and fried chicken for starters.  We followed this with a main course featuring  noodles, rice, beef and veggies, egg foo young, sweet and sour pork plus more spring rolls and wontons.   A small selection of desserts were on offer, plus tea and coffee.  At $22.oo a head we thought it was reasonably priced but it would have been nice to have a couple of extra main course dishes on offer.

We had a lovely night out and it was a great way to catch up with friends at the finish of the working week.  However, we did notice that the restaurant was much quieter than usual with plenty of spare tables. Last time we went to this restaurant on a Friday night is was just about booked out.   A sign of the times perhaps in these days of “belt tightening”?
