There was a problem with our tow car – the speedometer and odometer had stopped working. It was a job for an auto electrician, we were told. But the one in town recommended to us was fully booked for the week and we were due to go on a caravan holiday this weekend. (Life is one long holiday when you have a caravan, we always say). Robin decided to take our Landcruiser into the Toyota franchise and see if they could help.
We were attended to by the service and parts manager and he knew exactly what was wrong. Dropping down to the ground (and clad in a nice white shirt) he wiggled this, and looked at that and declared that the housing for the speedometer was not only loose but dripping oil. “Leave it with us”, he said, “and should we need any parts we can get it overnight. And would you like a courtesy car to take you home?” So we drove away in a nice shiny Toyota Corolla.
We collected our car the following day, and felt that the price charged was very reasonable. But we hadn’t gone far when the car refused to start. No problem to the Toyota team, out came a serviceman armed with a portable jump starter. In no time at all the engine had started and we headed back to Otaki.
Our experience with Toyota Levin was a happy one, great service coupled with friendly, efficient, professional staff. We need to find a new garage to service our cars now we have moved north, and it looks like they fit the bill.
