Christmas Day in Mosgiel

Doesn’t time fly!!  Here we are down in Mosgiel, two weeks into our ten week trip exploring the South Island.  It’s been very pleasant staying at the A&P Grounds, which has all the facilities needed for a great stay.

The temperatures have been fluctuating widely over the last couple of days.  From a high of 29degrees on Christmas Eve, to a damp and chilly 14degrees today.  What’s happened to Summer?

Our Christmas morning started with our traditional Christmas Day breakfast of hot croissants stuffed with ham and cheese.  Originally daughter Nicky’s family tradition, but we have borrowed it to make it ours as well.  Just delicious, with some nice plunger coffee to follow, a tasty breakfast to set us up for Christmas Day.

We are in Dunedin to spend Christmas with my old school friend Merilyn and hubby Colin, and the pair of us were invited to join in the family Christmas Lunch hosted by their son and daughter-in-law, and were made very welcome indeed.

This looks like the right house

We had a wonderful traditional Christmas Lunch, with hot ham, roast pork, turkey, lamb and chicken, served with a wonderful selection of veggies and salads.  Just as well it was a cold day, there is nothing nicer that roast meat and veggies, in my opinion!

Secret Santa gifts were distributed, and the big white Samoyed was very interested in his parcel.  More toys for him to play with, so that made him a very happy doggie indeed.

Christmas is for pets too

Everyone knows about the “Six Degrees of Separation”, which links everyone to everyone.  Here in New Zealand we can go one better, and we have “Two Degrees of Separation”, proved time and time again as we meet and talk to strangers.  All NZMCA members would have heard of Val McGrath who opened up the very first POP in this country in Alexandra – and over the years many, including us, have stayed there and met this lovely lady.  And would you believe that over Christmas lunch we were chatting to a young woman who just happened to be Val’s niece!

With travelling down south for so long, Christmas decorations are down to a bare minimum this year.  But we do have one little fellow hanging about.   Here is our little Christmas Kiwi sitting outside on a fence post wishing one and all a Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas, everyone!!!!
