Lone Star for Valentine’s Day Dinner

We don’t go overboard for Valentine’s Day, so there were no red roses or boxes of chocolates exchanged yesterday.  But it is always rather pleasant to go out for a meal on special occasions, isn’t it.  It all took a bit of arranging, shall we go out for breakfast perhaps, or what about lunch?  The final decision was made when Robin remembered that he had been presented with a voucher for Lone Star Restaurant from his workmates when he retired.  But would it be open on a Monday night?  You bet!  With it being Valentine’s Day they welcomed our enquiry, and mentioned they were providing a  free glass of bubbly for the ladies.  With said voucher safely tucked in my handbag, that is where we went.

Being a sensible middle aged couple we arrived a little earlier than some diners do, and had no trouble getting a table for two with a pleasant window outlook.  Later in the evening we heard the management telling intending diners that there was at least an hour’s wait for a table.  The decor was “Americano” with a wild west theme.  American flags graced the reception area and the walls were hung posters and pictures.

Even the ladies loo had photos galore covering the walls.  I noticed photos of Clint Eastwood of “Make my Day” fame, and several of “The Man in Black”, Johnny Cash.

And of course I couldn’t walk past one of my favourite singers, Elvis, pictured with Pricilla and Glen Campbell.

Within a short time the restaurant was filling up fast with couples out having their own Valentine’s celebration.  Lots of young couples,  and quite a few in the older age group.  It was lovely to see several young family groups out with their children too.  Who said romance was dead?  We pondered over the menu and finally made our choices.  The meal servings are extremely generous, I was determined to eat all of my delicious salmon, and Robin managed to eat all of his  huge piece of crispy skinned rolled roast pork.

We didn’t really need a dessert after such a large main course, but then we had the voucher to use up.  Against our better judgement we ordered Lemon Meringue Pie for me and Chocolate Khalua Cheesecake for Robin.  Both were delicious, and once again, very generous sized servings.

The meal was wonderful, and as it worked out with our voucher, it was practicably free.  We only had to pay another $6 over the amount of our voucher.  That’s why we needed those desserts, to use the voucher all up!

LOL.....glad you had a nice evening. This is the first year out of 7 I have not made it to NZ for a winter break. If I were 20 years younger I would seriously think of moving to NZ.

Looks like a pleasant evening. I'm supposing the restaurant is about as authentic as the Outback Steakhouse is in the US. Not very. But it doesn't seem to matter does it. :-)

Oh. The American flags are hung backwards. Funny the things you notice!
