Drag Racing and Planking

The weather was trying to decide if it should be fine or wet, but we still had a fun filled weekend at Foxton.  Robin was keen to try his hand at making pikelets to share with our caravan buddies for afternoon tea.   He became quite proficient at pouring the mix onto a hot pan, and flipping them over when the bubbles appeared on top.  I topped these with our home made grape jelly and a spoon of whipped cream and they went down a treat.

We gathered in the large hall in the evenings and Peter and Elaine had various activities to keep us occupied and amused.  They produced a box containing the game Drag Racing – not something we had seen before. The game consisted of a tray holding tiny cars, to be moved along the drag track with a small ball fired when a spring was released.  Husbands were pitted against their wives then the winners of this round went into a knock out competition.

We also had to produce a vegetable sculptor of some sort from an assortment of supplied produce, potatoes, carrots, lemons, rhubarb, parsley and the like.  To help us in the construction process we were also supplied with string, toothpicks, pins and pipe cleaners.  As to be expected, the finished products were a collection of weird and wonderful  ideas from our collective brains.  First prize went to Barbara for her voodoo doll.  There was also a plane, an angel, a glow worm, and various strange looking animals.

Peter didn’t get any takers to his suggestion of “planking”, so decided to do it solo.  His first effort was planking on the hall floor.

And how about this one.  We don’t think this craze will catch on with our caravan club.

We were surprised that we had the large hall all to ourselves for morning teas, 4zees (happy hour), and in the evenings.  Obviously the Manawatu Caravan Club like to socialise in their own vans.  I spotted this interesting poster hanging in the hall which sums up the lovely Foxton area.

We had our final morning tea outside dodging the spits of rain.  Peter and Elaine presented everyone a couple of chocolate frogs each for taking part in the competitions.  And I got a special award.  Wonder if it will turn into a handsome prince if I kiss him?
