Success is getting what you want; happiness is liking what you get

A Day in the Country

It was time for another family visit.  Come up for lunch, we were invited.  So armed with some home cooking to help out, a pot of beef and veggie soup, and a chocolate cake, we headed north to Kiwitea.  Son-in-law Robert arrived home just in time for lunch, roaring up the drive in his tractor which was equipped with rather lethal looking silage forks.

No visit to Kiwitea is complete until we do our grand-parent duty and admire any new animals which have appeared since our last visit.  Megan was very keen to show us her new pony Molly, who was settling in quite well and getting used to being handled.

Bounce the pup, so named because he bounces around all over the place,  is another new addition.  Bounce will be trained as a working dog, and the older dog Patch is teaching him some manners, when they are deemed necessary.  “You hold him while he’s got clean feet”, said Robert, and put Bounce in my arms.  He may only be a pup, but he’s got awfully big paws.  Isn’t that a sign that he will grow into a large dog?

The family have several horses, and Megan got Sonic ready for a ride.  “Look Nana, no saddle”, she said proudly, as she posed on Sonic, a Hackney Morgan cross.  How can she ride like that?  It must be a combination of lots of practise and good horsemanship.

All too soon it was time to start off on the two hour drive home.  Traffic was quite heavy but flowed freely, and it was dark when we finally made it back.  We could hear Muffy loudly meowing her displeasure at being left home all by herself as we opened the door.  A bit of attention and a full bowl of food soon put her in a better mood!
